Ellis Building Renovation
Solstice was tasked by Benderson Development to renovate an existing commercial building in downtown Sarasota. Set in pedestrian-friendly, urban environment, the scope included enhancing the facade along Main Street and paying particular attention to how the building touches the streetscape. The main challenge was to provide a presence to what had typically been thought of as the back of the building.

Using an intriguing counterpoint of levels, volumes, and materials, Solstice Architects designed an entirely new entry experience. Without changing the width of the original storefront, architectural elements now define the approach. Expansive overhangs provide shade and protection from the rain while a water fountain carried from the exterior to the inside creates a playful foyer. In an environment where customer service is key, the new design purposefully contributes to the overall business experience.
