About SOLSTICE Planning and Architecture
We founded SOLSTICE Planning and Architecture in 2002 as a studio for talented problem-solvers working together to advance the principles of building design based on regionalism, cultural history, function, structure, and natural light.
Based in Sarasota, Florida, SOLSTICE is an award-winning design firm shaping meaningful connections between people and place. Led by Jonathan Parks, FAIA, our firm is recognized among leading Sarasota architects for our work in sustainable design, historic preservation, and modern Florida architecture—creating environments that inspire, endure, and reflect the character of their communities.

Connecting People with Place
SOLSTICE Planning and Architecture is a Sarasota-based design firm that is dedicated to connecting people with place. Through architecture, urban design, interior environments, and historic preservation, the firm champions community identity while advancing a resilient, carbon-free future.
Rooted in the legacy of the Sarasota School of Architecture and informed by regional sustainability principles, SOLSTICE approaches every project—whether a waterfront residence, civic building, or adaptive reuse—with the belief that architecture should elevate daily life and reflect its cultural context.
Sustainability. Stewardship. Innovation.
SOLSTICE believes design excellence and environmental responsibility are inseparable. The firm has completed multiple LEED Platinum-certified buildings—among the most energy-efficient in the nation—accounting for over 25% of all LEED Platinum projects in the Sarasota region.
With over 130 design awards recognizing its work in sustainable design, interiors, urban planning, and preservation—including the 2024 National AIA Honor Award in Urban Design—SOLSTICE stands among the leading architecture firms in Florida.

Past Meets Future
Beyond new construction, SOLSTICE is deeply committed to preserving Florida’s architectural legacy. The firm has restored numerous mid-century modern structures designed by Paul Rudolph, FAIA, and other masters of the Sarasota School of Architecture.
Led by Jonathan Parks, FAIA, the firm is recognized nationally for its expertise in modern preservation—ensuring that these landmarks remain both relevant and inspiring for future generations. In fact, Jonathan is believed to have renovated more Paul Rudolph buildings than any other architect in the world.

Jonathan Parks, FAIA — Founder and Principal
As Founder and Principal, Jonathan Parks, FAIA, has led SOLSTICE for over two decades, guiding a team of innovators across commercial, residential, institutional, and hospitality projects throughout Sarasota, Tampa Bay, and the broader Florida Gulf Coast.
In 2025, Jonathan was elevated to the AIA College of Fellows, an honor held by less than 3% of architects nationwide. His career began at Centerbrook Architects and Planners, where he worked alongside the legendary Charles Moore, FAIA, often considered the father of postmodernism.
Originally from Amherst, New York, Jonathan earned his Master of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania, grounding his practice in both academic rigor and creative exploration.
