Designed by Sarasota architect Jonathan Parks and completed in 2014, Bird Key Moderne is a bold expression of modern waterfront architecture, sited prominently along the shores of Sarasota Bay. This custom residence reflects a sculptural approach to coastal living, where carefully proportioned volumes, expansive glazing, and curated materials combine to create a serene yet dramatic home.

The architecture is organized around a 20-foot-tall central living space that opens to sweeping views of the bay, framed by clerestory windows and sliding glass walls that dissolve the boundary between indoors and out.
Passive design strategies — including deep overhangs, screened porches, and natural cross-ventilation — allow the house to respond organically to its tropical climate. Sustainability is embedded in the layout and orientation, not treated as an afterthought but as an essential part of the home's character.
From the elevated roof deck to the private dock below, the home connects seamlessly to its waterfront setting. The design includes a main-level primary suite, upper-level guest suites with private balconies, and luminous interior spaces for entertaining and everyday living. As a piece of Bird Key architecture, the home exemplifies a modern, sustainable approach to coastal design that celebrates light, landscape, and lifestyle.
