Sarasota MOD Weekend 2024: Where mid-century meets modern resilience

Art by John Pirman. Galloway’s Furniture as it looked in 1959.

Get ready to step back in time at the 2024 Sarasota MOD Weekend, happening from November 14-17. At SOLSTICE, we’re excited to be involved in several events too with details and links to buy tickets below.

This year’s theme, Restoring a Sense of Place in the Wake of Disaster, focuses on architectural resilience with a nod to the glamour of Sarasota’s mid-century modern roots. From exclusive tours of iconic spots like Paul Rudolph’s Umbrella House to boat cruises through Sarasota Bay, the event promises a lineup as compelling as Sarasota’s “Atomic Ranch” houses, complete with cocktail-in-hand moments. It’s your chance to explore why Sarasota’s modernist architecture is more relevant than ever in a world facing new environmental challenges

MOD Weekend will feature thought-provoking discussions led by architects, historians, and designers who are reinventing Sarasota's architectural identity to withstand future storms.

You can catch Jonathan at these 3 events during 2024 Sarasota MOD Weekend.

  1. Spiritual Spaces Trolley Tour, Friday, November 15 at 1:00pm

Hop on a trolley for this guided tour of select Sarasota religious buildings from each decade between the 1950s and 2000s, including some interiors. Jonathan will be leading the 1pm Trolley Tour. Tickets $100/$125. Click here for tickets to the Spiritual Spaces Trolley Tour.

  2. South Gate Self-Guided Driving Tour, Saturday, November 16, 12pm-4pm

Jonathan and Kathryn will be “stationed” at one of our clients’ homes on the tour, The Terrace House. It was a significant renovation of a three-bedroom 1963 home on Tyrone Lane. Come see us and get a tour too! Tickets $75/$100. More information and tickets for the South Gate Self-Guided Tour here.

  3. Brunch with the Bunch: The Next Generation of the Sarasota School, Sunday, November 17th at 10am.

Join us at the Sarasota Art Museum where Jonathan will be on a moderated panel discussion with a select few who are considered the “Next Generation” of architects that have extended and evolved the principles and impact of the Sarasota School of Architecture. Tickets $150/175. More information and tickets to the Brunch with the Bunch here.
