It was a great honor to be asked to feature our work at the Center For Architecture Sarasota (CFAS) in their new exhibit, “Designing Sarasota: An Architectural History”. The exhibit was produced by CFAS along with Sarasota Architectural Foundation, Sarasota Alliance for Historic Preservation and the Gulf Coast chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
Visitors are welcome to stroll through a gallery dedicated to the history of Sarasota architecture. There are three eras on display – Native American architecture through World War II, seven architects from the mid-century who founded the Sarasota School of Architecture, and fifteen award-winning Sarasota architects currently practicing.
SOLSTICE projects on display include:
Compass Haus – LEED Platinum and multiple award-winner by AIA Tampa Bay, Professional Builder Magazine, SRQ Home of the Year, and recognized with the Golden Aurora Award. The Compass Haus’ goal was to create a minimalist structure that also reduced dependency on human infrastructure. Learn more about the Compass Haus.
Sarasota High School, Paul Rudolph Addition – Featured as one of the projects demonstrating the work of Paul Rudolph, SOLSTICE was hired by the School Board of Sarasota County to act as the restoration architect. Learn more about Sarasota High School.
Sarasota Municipal Auditorium – An example of historic Art Deco architecture in Sarasota, SOLSTICE was hired by the City of Sarasota to renovate the community building with a $500,000 historical preservation grant from the State of Florida. Learn more about Sarasota Municipal Auditorium.
We also hope you’ll take some time to learn more about the architecture that inspired young Jonathan Parks, as he grew up visiting his aunt’s home designed by Ralph Twitchell in Boca Grande, Florida.
Social distancing will be adhered with a maximum of 10 visitors at a time. Those who are interested can register on the Center for Architecture Sarasota website.
